TFM Morning Update 09-08-2026

CORN

  • Corn futures are trading higher following the three-day weekend. December corn is trading 2-3/4 cents higher at $5.39-1/2, while March corn is 2-1/2 cents higher at $5.54-3/4.
  • Crude oil climbed to its highest level since June 3, after Saudi Arabia reported attacks that halted operations at several energy facilities in the southern part of the country.
  • The USDA will release the September WASDE report on September 12. The market may remain choppy ahead of the report as traders look for confirmation of tighter supplies. The USDA will also update the old-crop balance sheet to reflect the completion of the 2025/26 marketing year on August 31.

SOYBEANS

  • Soybean futures are trading slightly higher following the Labor Day weekend. November soybeans are trading 1/2 cent higher at $13.10-1/4, while January soybeans are also 1/2 cent higher at $13.25-1/2.
  • President Xi’s upcoming meeting with President Trump is expected to be largely symbolic, with limited expectations for new trade agreements. The primary focus is expected to be maintaining existing trade agreements and keeping current trade flows intact.
  • Chinese soybean crushers could face tighter supplies during the fourth quarter as available Brazilian inventories decline. With South American supplies tightening, China could become increasingly reliant on U.S. soybeans to fill its import needs.

WHEAT

  • The wheat complex is trading higher across the board as the market adds additional risk premium amid ongoing concerns surrounding the Black Sea conflict. Looking at December contracts, Chicago wheat is trading 17-1/4 cents higher at $7.51-1/4, Kansas City wheat is 19-3/4 cents higher at $8.22, and Minneapolis spring wheat is 17-1/4 cents higher at $7.62-1/4.
  • Over the weekend, U.S. representatives met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. Putin reportedly ordered a three-day pause in Russian attacks on Kyiv during the U.S. delegation’s visit to Ukraine, but emphasized that the two sides had not reached a broader ceasefire agreement.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly determined to bring the entire Donetsk region under Russian control within six months, while Ukraine resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries on Monday.
